There was a tragic event yesterday that stunned the world. Social media is abuzz with messages of love and kindness; predictions about what will result from this death; as well as—as unbelievable as it is to even type this—some who are gleeful at this death (one cannot imagine the darkness of a soul that would publicly announce their glee at the death of anyone—-whether they are in agreement with them or not). I cannot say anything about Charlie Kirk. I did not know him personally and so I am quite reluctant to make any assumptions regarding him. But his death has reminded me, once again, that our hope just isn’t in this world. God wasn’t surprised by the shooting of this prominent Republican young man. There IS a plan and we have to choose to trust the Lord and, most importantly, remember that this world is not our home. We are but pilgrims and sojourners on our way to a better land. And let’s be honest, are we surprised? The darkness feels darker every day and the wickedness is growing. Are we surprised that wicked men do wicked things?It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be transformed and given a new heart and become a new creation. Sure, the majority of people on this earth will never resort to killing someone. And for that we can thank God. But we are all sinners. We hurt people with our words and with our actions every single day. Jesus died so that we can be free from the bondage of sin. May we not lose sight of what really matters in the midst of the brewing political storm and as our country reels from this terrible tragedy. And let’s pray. From the Pastor’s Pen: The Biblical Order and the Peril of Disobedience“Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain silent. For it was Adam who was first formed, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” 1 Timothy 2:11–14 And I know that some people, just from reading that verse, are already angry with me and before they finish reading this sentence, will move on to another site. But if I may paraphrase Paul Washer, I haven’t even commented on the verse yet, you have simply read it. And what you have read is not ambiguous, nor is it culturally relative. It is the inspired, unchanging revelation of God, given through the Apostle Paul, to govern the church for all time. This text declares that women are not to teach or exercise authority over men in the church. This is not a suggestion; it is a divine mandate rooted in the created order and the fall of man.Paul begins by saying that a woman is to learn in silence with all submission. The term “silence” here does not mean absolute muteness but a posture of humility and respect for the God-ordained leadership of men in the church. The prohibition against teaching or exercising authority over men is specific: women are not to assume the role of pastor or elder, roles that involve authoritative teaching and governing the flock. Why? Paul anchors this command in creation: “For it was Adam who was first formed, and then Eve.” The order of creation establishes male headship, not as a cultural artifact but as God’s design. Furthermore, Paul points to the fall: “It was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman.” Eve’s deception underscores the protective role of male leadership, not because women are inferior but because God’s design is perfect.And this teaching is not isolated. In 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, Paul reiterates that women are to keep silent in the churches regarding authoritative teaching. Titus 1:5–9 and 1 Timothy 3:1–7 describe elders as men, reinforcing the pattern. The Scripture is consistent because God is consistent. To reject this is to reject the authority of the One who inspired it.Yet, we live in a day when this clear teaching is ignored, even by those who claim to love Christ. Churches across the land ordain women as pastors, defying God’s Word in the name of cultural relevance or egalitarianism. This is not a minor issue; it is rebellion against divine authority. When Christians ignore biblical teaching, they invite catastrophic consequences, both for the church and their own souls.First, disregarding God’s design undermines the authority of Scripture. If we can dismiss 1 Timothy 2 as “outdated” or “cultural,” what prevents us from dismissing the resurrection, the atonement, or the call to holiness? The moment we pick and choose which Scriptures to obey, we make ourselves the arbiters of truth, dethroning God and enthroning human reason. This is idolatry, plain and simple.Second, ignoring this teaching disrupts the church’s witness. The church is to be a “pillar and support of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). When we conform to the world’s values, we obscure the gospel’s distinctiveness. A church led by women (so called pastors,) in defiance of Scripture, signals to the world that God’s Word is negotiable. It weakens our testimony and invites judgment, for God will not be mocked.Third, there are personal consequences. Leaders who defy God’s order place themselves under His discipline. James 3:1 warns that teachers will incur stricter judgment. To step into a role God has forbidden is to invite spiritual peril, not only for the individual but for the congregation led astray. False teaching spreads like leaven, corrupting the body.What, then, are we to do? First, we must submit to Scripture without reservation. If God’s Word says women are not to pastor, we obey, trusting His wisdom over our preferences. Second, we must pray for churches that have strayed, that they would repent and return to biblical fidelity. Third, we must train men to lead faithfully, as God intended, equipping them to shepherd with humility and courage.Christian, this issue is not about equality but about obedience. Men and women are equal in value before God (Galatians 3:28), but roles differ in His sovereign design. To ignore this is to invite chaos into the church and judgment upon ourselves.
